SGI, IDT partner to manufacture synthetic gene products

PBR Staff Writer Published 03 February 2012

Synthetic Genomics (SGI) and Integrated DNA Technologies (IDT) have entered into an agreement to manufacture, market, and commercialize small synthetic gene products.

The companies have collaborated to construct custom, synthetic, double-stranded nucleic acids up to 5 kb.

As per the agreement, IDT will use oligonucleotide manufacturing expertise, including gBlocks Gene Fragments product line, in combination with SGI's proprietary technologies to assemble small gene constructs.

The financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.

SGI founder and CEO Craig Venter said they look forward to work with the market leader IDT in developing important products for the life sciences community.

IDT founder and CEO Joe Walder said they plan to apply SGI's technologies to create affordable, efficient gene synthesis products that can be delivered quickly to the synthetic biology community.
